Better late than never, right? Major Ontario ski areas like Blue Mountain and Mt. St. Louis Moonstone are finally opening this weekend, as areas north of Toronto have been receiving heaps of snow all week. Most are opening in a limited capacity, though, with plans to open more lifts and runs as weather permits. In [...]
That’s right, folks. We’re into December, and still no goddamn snow out here in Ontario. It’s such a crapshoot up here. Some shredding seasons, like 2008, start in mid-November with a bang; in fact, according to this article, we were riding November 23 last year. Of course, it could be worse; in 2007, there was [...]
Just came across the video below starring shred pro T.J. Schneider. Looks like they did a few days at Ontario ski resorts, which is pretty cool. Featured resorts are Blue Mountain, Mt. St. Louis Moonstone, and Dagmar. Watching this video makes we want to get better at park riding.
If you happen to live in Southern Ontario you still have an opportunity to check out Blue Mountain one last time before it shifts to green season: the resort will be open for riding and skiing once again this weekend. Details can be found at www.bluemountain.ca.
Yesterday Josh and I headed to Blue Mountain to get in some final turns. Blue decided to re-open for the long weekend after some wacky weather dumped 30 centimetres, so we headed to Collingwood for a last hurrah. We had pretty low expectations for the day, as Blue reported 9 runs open, a 50cm base, [...]
One of my annual snowboarding pilgrimages is to Mont Tremblant, possibly one of the most famous ski areas in eastern North America. It’s famous with good reason: the vertical, facilities and European feel make it a preferred destination for pretty much anyone that lives in Ontario, Quebec or many parts of the eastern United States [...]
The National Post, a relatively national newspaper here in Canada, included a print magazine supplement in today’s paper about skiing and snowboarding in Canada. It’s titled Element. You can view the supplement online here. I haven’t read through the whole thing but at first glance it looks pretty good for a free magazine. Highlights include: [...]
As mentioned yesterday, I headed to Mt. St. Louis Moonstone to get some turns in on limited terrain. Moonstone was operating six runs and three chairs, which didn’t sound bad but turned out to get boring fast. One of those runs was a bunny hill served by a creaky chair, and the others basically were [...]
I might have to hit this up: Mt. St. Louis Moonstone says they plan to open Saturday, courtesy of about 40cm of new snow since Sunday. No plans from Blue Mountain to open, so far as I can tell. WINTER IS HERE!
Blue Mountain has re-launched their website for the winter season, and there’s an interesting note buried within. Visitors to the snow tubing area of the site are now greeted with this message: “After years of enjoyment, the decision was made to close the Tube Town Snow Tubing Park. Blue Mountain is getting prepared to embark [...]
