First Spin of ‘08

So last night I decided to take advantage of some warmer weather here in Toronto by dusting off my bike and hitting the streets. Unfortunately for me and my bike, it was a rainy/muddy day, but hey… I’ve been caged for too long. I was not to be denied.

Snowboarding Is Done: Here Comes Spring and Summer

With temperatures reaching 15 celsius and no western trips on the horizon, it would appear my snowboarding season is done. It’s time to put the snowboard in storage, and pull out the golf clubs.
Over the summer I plan to participate in a lot of:

Mountain biking: You’ll be hearing a fair bit about this, albeit on [...]

Duke’s Cycle to return on April 1

A little more than one month after being destroyed by a tragic fire, Duke’s Cycle will re-open its doors next week.
The new location is only a few blocks away (452 Richmond Street West) from the original store and will serve as Duke’s home until the rebuilding process is finished on Queen Street.
Since the fire, I [...]

Awareness

So I stumbled upon this clever (and relevant) awareness test that I thought you might enjoy. It’s more of an advertisement than another cheesy “Which dictator are YOU?” sort of test…

This Weekend: Toronto International Bicycle Show

So I’m a little late in getting this information to you, but if you case you didn’t know, the Toronto International Bicycle Show is going on at the Direct Energy Center this weekend.
The Spring bike show is great for actually seeing some of the new models of bikes that you’ve only seen online and for [...]

Devastating Fire Destorys Duke’s Cycle

We haven’t covered cycling in quite some time, and this is a very sad note to return to the topic on, but here goes: Duke’s Cycle, an extremely well-known and popular cycle shop here in Toronto, burned to the ground in a devastating fire this week. Duke’s was ‘home base’ for a cycling club that [...]

Buy George Hincapie’s 6.9 Madone

There’s an interesting auction up on eBay just now. It appears that one of George Hincapie’s Trek Madones is up for sale.
This is a bike that he has ridden throughout the 2007 race season.  The bidding is starting at just over $10,000.
Although George and I are the same size, I’m staying away.
(thanks Liam)

Selecting The Proper Spinning Class

Seeing how this season was my first on the bike, it is now my first offseason. One way that I’ve chosen to stay in shape is to attend spinning classes. I’ve been attending and comparing various spinning courses over the past few weeks, and now that I’m the authoritative expert on the matter, [...]

Trek joins Astana

In a somewhat expected move, Trek announced today that it has partnered with pro-cycling team Astana. With team Discovery out of the pro peloton, Trek needed to find a new team and Astana, likely due to Johan Bruyneel, was the logical fit.

Ontarians Receive Bicycle Tax Exemption

Four days ago Ontario began exempting sales tax on bicycles and safety related equipment. The exemption is applied towards new or used bikes that are less than $1000, and this will last until November 30, 2008.
Combine this new exemption with end-of-year prices and it might be time to finally pick up that road or [...]
