Next Up: Mont Tremblant

On Thursday night, I’m going to get on a bus and drive overnight to Mont Tremblant, arguably the best ski area east of Alberta here in Canada. Like Blue Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb, a couple of my other Canadian favourites, Mont Tremblant is owned by Intrawest Corporation, which means I’m likely in for a ‘full village’ experience: good riding, great food and lots of drinks.

I’ve never been to Tremblant. In fact, I’ve only been to La Belle Province (Quebec) about half a dozen times in my life. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Tremblant (except for a few grumbles about the ‘corporate’ look and feel; these folks have told me to try Mont Saint-Saveur instead), and I’m looking forward to it. Tremblant is a pretty serious mountain; it has 13 lifts, almost 100 runs, and about 2100 feet in vertical drop. In fact, according to Yahoo, it has the highest vertical in eastern North America.

Unfortunately, the entire mountain isn’t open yet, but this will be another great Whistler warm-up. I’m really looking forward to this, especially since I’ve tested the knee.
