OK, after this post I’m going to try to move away from just talking about Whistler.
Intrawest is planning to build a new gondola,
hopefully before the Olympics, that will connect Whistler and Blackcomb
mountains. If I understand this correctly, it means you will be able to
switch mountains without having to ride all the way down one.. and all
the way back up another
The article also notes that Whistler was hit by “freak” rainstorms
toward the end of winter last year. Apparently it was the worst winter
in [enter amount here, depending on who you speak to] years. I happened
to be in Whistler around that time, and it was very odd to see
virtually no snow on the ground at the base - you couldn’t even ski
out. But the snow on top was great, and it snowed about 30cm in the
apline while I was there.
Then the day I left.. it snowed 50 in the alpine. In a night.
I still thought it was amazing. And that was one of their worst winters ever. So this year should (hopefully) be good…
