HUGE Snow Day

When I went to bed last night, it was snowing. When I woke up, there were 33 centimetres of snow on the ground. The result? My first serious powder day… ever.
I learned one thing very quickly: I could throw all my snowboarding skills out the window. Riding in serious powder (remember, I’m from Ontario, so [...]

Huge Snow Dump

When I went to bed, there was no snow. When I woke up, there was about 30 centimetres. Can you say POWDER DAY?

I Think I’m Trying to Break Myself

OK, one more day to go. I wonder if I’ll survive.
Today’s calamity: I was chugging down Panorama in the 7th Heaven Zone on Blackcomb. I didn’t see a mogul coming, flew off it, didn’t prepare for my landing and sort of twisted my ankle on my good leg. It feels pretty good, so I’m going [...]

Snow, Sun and a Bum Knee

So it looks like the knee is holding up pretty well snowboarding. But when I turn it left or right while I’m standing around, I fall into a heap; my knee just gives way. I think it’s ligament damage, I’m going to have to see when I get back.
In the meantime, I’ll just keep snowboarding.  [...]

A Scary Moment and Whistler Day One

Today is my second day in Whistler; I landed yesterday. I had a really terrible moment right before my arrival, when I sprained my right knee playing basketball - it was literally the last thing I did before I went to bed the night before I left. I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to [...]

Snowboarding an Olympic Hit

There are many stories
floating around on the topic of Olympic attendance; many athletes and
articles suggest it has been less than stellar (though the IOC
disagrees). Interestingly, both snowboard cross and the half-pipe event
have been well-attended, and are providing a much needed shot in the
arm to an event that doesn’t always appeal to younger crowds (curling,
anyone?).

How Did I End Up At Horseshoe?

Against my better judgement I headed up to Horseshoe Resort once again
yesterday. I say “against my better judgement” because it only took one
trip up there to determine I wanted longer runs. But I scored a couple
of free passes from someone a couple of days ago, so I decided to head
up anyway.
One positive thing from heading [...]

Going for Gold

I’m about to head out the door to go riding, but I got an email I wanted to share. You’ve got to check out Erica’s blog,
it’s a great concept. I think her tagline sums it up quite well: “It’s
2006 and I am overweight and out of shape. By 2010, I will be on the
Canadian Olympic [...]
