Snowboarding

Season Progress Report: It Makes Me Sad

I have been out snowboarding much less than I could have ever expected.  Work, social obligations, and the weather have all conspired against me. If not against me, then against whomever I was going to board with.  I have only racked a pitiful, pathetic, and depressing SIX days so far this season.

I suppose I can lament or I can get to work on getting out there as often as possible for the next month or so.  I plan on taking a sick day this Friday and heading up to Blue Mountain, solo if need be.  I am going to try and get up to fifteen riding days, if not more.  Maybe I need to form or join some sort of boarding club to help get me out more often.

The days I have been out have been pretty good. I feel more confident in my riding than ever and I am in love with my Lib Tech.

Does anyone have any interesting trips planned for the rest of this season? How has your season been so far?

Discussion

  1. I have the same # of days but mostly because of a strained calf I was dealing with since end of Jan. Regarding starting a boarding group – I actually wrote a post similar to this just this weekend… finding people to go boarding with: http://snowboard-women.com/wordpress/2009/02/28/need-new-snowboarding-friends-find-a-group/

Do you guys use meetup.com in Canada? It is a great way to find people to ride with. Good luck!

Oh, and I am finally heading back to the hill next weekend for another trip to Mammoth. I hope you get out there more too – good luck!

  3. i also have only been riding six times this season. though it was my first official season. and i would have liked to gone more. the last two sessions were the best ever. and im content with this season if they had to be my last.

  4. I have been out about 20 times this season. Crappy mountain and some really terrible conditions didn’t stop me. I usually went alone unfortunately. Sometimes I would meet cool people most the time it was miserable being alone.

  6. If you don’t have one already, you should look into buying a season pass this summer. I find that I got a LOT more trips in with a pass because it’s easy to justify going with bad conditions or for only a half day.

  7. I do actually have one to Blue Mountain. I’ve only used it twice so far. I hope to use it 3 or 4 more times, mostly during March break. Maybe getting one next year is a bad idea :(

  8. Me too. In all honesty it’s been a really crummy season this year though, at least in BC.

    Boooourns!

  9. Smithers, is Allie saying “Booo” or “Booourns”?

It looks like the bas at Blue mountain and other resorts held up through the warmth of last week. Marck break riding is looking pretty good and Tremblant is now a possibility. Clearly, I need to quit my career and go pro so I can ride more often ;)

  10. Agree; so sad the season’s end is in sight! I don’t have any trips planned in the near future; however I’m really considering a summer camp! If that doesn’t work out, though, there’s always surfing to keep me occupied… :)
