Whistler’s New Trail Map Makes Me Cry

Before I came out to Whistler this year I mentioned that their new trail map – from an online perspective, anyway – looked pretty bad.

Having now procured a printed version for navigating the mountain I can confirm the thing is completely useless. Every time I pull it out here I realize it cannot help me navigate the mountains whatsoever. Thankfully I’ve been here many times before. I can’t imagine what it must be like for visitors who have never been here before. Why Whistler Blackcomb would re-do their trail map, and do it so badly, is beyond me.

You can view the new trail map here. Oy.

Discussion

  1. I agree, although the map itself hasn’t changed in structure much it’s seriously ugly. Glad I know my way around and don’t really need to use it!

  2. Hey man, cool site! Glad to see you’re having fun at Whistler. I live close to Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island. I highly recommend you visit it sometime, I enjoy it more than Whistler, (I’m a beginner snowboarder, tho). Right now the conditions suck, but maybe next year.

I was at Whistler to start my snowboarding year with my husband, and it was really busy and crowded for my taste, Blackcomb is better, especially Hortsman’s Hut. I was on the Whistler lift going down when that gondola accident happened on the Blackcomb lift, spent the rest of the day hanging out, getting photos of rescue operation. It kind of freaked me out, to be honest.
