The New Coat I Said I Wouldn’t Buy: Columbia Buckhorn Bluff

I’ve had a McKinley coat for two years that has kept me warm in snowstorms, ice storms, rainstorms and everything in between. But at the beginning of this season I knew it was time for a new coat: my McKinley coat was permanently dirty, and it was torn up under both arms from carrying my board around. I soldiered on with my existing coat, though, because I really didn’t want to drop the cash.

But with the season now well underway, many sporting goods stores are having outerwear sales. So, knowing my Whistler trip was coming up, I decided to pick up a new coat for a $135 (taxes included). I settled on the Columbia Buckhorn Bluff snowboarding coat, though it took a couple of trips to different stores to get one in my size (medium).

I was looking for something with a little more style than my last coat, which was a dark blue and looked pretty plain; the colour I ended up purchasing was a light brown, and not the grey/black depicted above. I look forward to trying it on the slopes next week.

  4. MY coat’s brown too – we’ll be coat buddies… that’s what they’ll call us.

  5. The link you provided to buy the coat is broken. The coat is available on Altrec.com. Columbia makes some great affordable gear.
