Looks like I’m headed back to the land of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Over the weekend I booked a trip to Whistler Blackcomb for January 18 to 24 inclusive, and I couldn’t be more stoked!
I obviously talk about Whistler a whole lot on this blog. And while every year I mull a trip to Banff or Colorado or Jackson Hole or some other equally awesome place, I always seem to come back to Whistler. At the end of the day, if I’m going to sink a lot of money into a snowboarding trip, I guess I want to make sure the terrain kicks ass, the weather will generally be reliable and I want to go somewhere very accessible by plane and bus. Whistler fits the bill perfectly. Moreover, I’ve been so many times that I know what’s good, what’s bad, what to expect on the mountains, etc. – much of which I have captured in the ever-evolving Whistler Guide (which of course will get a refresh after this trip).
I’m staying in a small condo near in the North Village, which means I can walk to both lifts but I’m slightly away from the centre of the action (which is good).
My objectives for this Whistler trip include:
Whistler Blackcomb officially opens in two days.
Woohoooo! You’re coming up to my side of the world eh
Maybe I’ll see you up there. If so, you should definitely be a part of the snowboarding movie I’m working on.
Peak to Peak is going to be great, too.
Don’t forget to stop by Elements for an epic breakfast.
Sweet, I love Whistler. In fact I moved from the UK to Vancouver and Whistler was at least half the reason.
If you enjoy powder I’d highly recomend doing a day’s split boarding with these guys http://www.whistlerguides.com/ or if you have spare money a day CAT boarding http://www.powdermountaincatskiing.com/default.aspx would be worthy additions to your list
Have a good trip!
PS: I second the elements recomendation, in fact I’d happily eat all three meals there. Also checkout Beetroot Cafe (near the Marketplace IGA) and/or Portobellos near Blackcomb base
good luck, make the best of it.
