As mentioned yesterday, I headed to Mt. St. Louis Moonstone to get some turns in on limited terrain. Moonstone was operating six runs and three chairs, which didn’t sound bad but turned out to get boring fast. One of those runs was a bunny hill served by a creaky chair, and the others basically were all the same run – they all looked the same, and they all basically met in the middle of the hill and ended up at the same place. So there was zero variety, and we were gone after an hour and a half.
But I would be crazy if I said the exprience was all bad. The weather was great, the prices were low, and c’mon; it’s November. We’d be nuts to expect the whole mountain to be open. Moreover, there’s nothing quite like flying down a hill on your snowboard, moving so fast that you can feel the wind resistance kicking in.
What! Come on, first turns! That can never be bad
But yeah, I see what you’re saying.
Was it crowded at all?
I was ECSTATIC to be there but it definitely got old fast. Given your name I’m assuming you’re in Vancouver.. imagine a hill that’s less than half the size of Grouse with only a couple of lifts open that day.
No lift lines though. So that was good. Probably also contributed to the boredom because you could get up and down so fast, so often…
Heh yep I’m in Vancouver. No lift lines! I don’t see that very often
But hey, at least you got out there! My first day this year is going to be Thursday when Whistler opens… I can’t wait.
I was also there on this day, it was pretty fun, although I can really only spend a couple of hours there on a good day before being annoyed about how “ontario” it is.
This blog is a breath of fresh air, two things that i’m equally obsessive about, Cycling and Riding!
Cheers
