Burton Love Snowboards Stir Things Up

Earlier this month, we talked about Burton’s new line of park boards. The boards, released under the name “Burton Love”, feature racy images of playboy models and are supported by a marketing strategy based in humour and sex.

The question immediately arose as to whether this was a brilliant marketing move or a shallow attempt to provoke controversy and, of course, sell some snowboards.

Well, now we are starting to see the results of the Burton Love marketing campaign. Hundreds of people are very upset and they are getting organised. If you check out this link you will find the arguments against Burton, instructions on how to join a large protest, a list of protest links, a list of groups opposing Burton, and links to recent media coverage.

There are a lot of resources out there now to help those angry with Burton to mobilize and become active against the boarding giant.

Chances are that this will all have little negative impact on Burton’s dominance of the industry, and this might just end up being a whole lot of free publicity. However, is it possible that Burton will end up apologetic and embarrassed from this situation? Stay tuned.

Discussion

  1. Burton, apologize? I don’t see that happening.

  2. Agreed. Burton would have to pull a MUCH more offensive stunt to offer up an apology.
The only thing they might be sorry for is not launching this line sooner.
