Attention Graduates: Snowboarding Impresses the Boss

Want to land that dream job, or impress the new boss? Forget listing “cinema” as an interest on your resume. (Does listing interests ever work, anyway?) According to a curious new study by Sno!zone, which offers indoor shredding in the UK, taking part in extreme sports like snowboarding and mountain biking is what will really impress the boss.

Sno!zone queried 500 bosses, and the results were kind of hilarious. According to the release, “almost 60 percent [of boses] said listing reading and cooking suggested a lack of imagination or ambition in a candidate, while 82 percent said an interest in extreme sports was an attractive quality, suggesting energy and ambition.”

Awesome. I wonder if bringing the board as a prop to the interview would be a good idea.

  1. I agree! It does make a boss/potential boss assume that you are outgoing and willing to take risks. It also shows that you have a life outside your job. Cooking!? Everyone cooks, oven or microwave oven. I’m an AASI snowboard instructor, and having that added ‘Professional Association’ tribute shows that you have ambitions in life aside from your career and can juggle everything.

  4. Im taking a loan out for approx 50k for art school in january (3d animation). This covers tuition and living expenses for the 1 year intensive course. Its a really good school apparently – but im still nervous about the year ending, being 25 years old, jobless and my life being screwed from debt.

    Everyone is encouraging me saying its an investment in my future, but im still nervous about it.
    Anyone had any experiences, or words of wisdom?
