Best of luck to the amazing Tiger Woods, who’s done for the season after winning the U.S. Open. He’s taking time off to have the ACL in his left knee reconstructed, and to rehab a double stress fracture in his tibia.
I tried golfing three weeks after having my ACL reconstructed, with painful results. But 10 weeks after the surgery, it was all good.
On his site, Woods said “it is clear the right thing to do is listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery, and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee.”
Congrats for the recovery. I torn my right ACL on March 23 2008 and am on physiotherapy since then (mainly quads & hams).
However I can walk normally. I cannot walk sideways due to instability (I dont need to walk sideways). I also cannot run (I have not tried it though).
My OS says the symptoms are related to meniscus tear though ACL tear is also confirmed in MRI.
I am not sure whether to go for arthroscopy or not.
I would welcome any suggestions.
Hi Sameer,
I preface all my comments with:
I AM NOT A DOCTOR!!
HOWEVER, I also had the option. My choices were: a) live with a torn ACL where my knee could give out at any point.. but deal with it or b) get the surgery. I can honestly say the surgery, FOR ME (I had no meniscus tear at all, meniscus was fine), was short-term pain for long term gain. I doubted myself a million times for opting for the surgery but I’m extremely pleased with the results.
Good luck!

Tore my ACL playing soccer – opted for surgery, having it done tomorrow morning so thought I’d sit down and read everyone’s stories or recovery. i hope to get back to soccer later but love to get back to golf asap. Hope it’ll be lighter on the knee. Will come back my story later gents.
