Snowboarding

Is Your Snowboarding Season Over? How Much Did You Ride?

I’m finally coming to grips with the facts: snowboarding season is almost over here in Ontario. Sure, Blue Mountain still has 34 or 34 runs open, and it’s still damn cold. But the sun is out, and the snow is starting to melt. The thaw has begun.

All things considered, I had a pretty good season. My knee feels good, and I managed to get a fair bit of riding in around a busy family season, vacations and business travel. The almost-final statistics:

  • Two days riding in Ontario (with maybe one more to come)
  • Two days in western New York
  • Three days in Vermont
  • Four days in Whistler
  • Three days in Quebec

Total days riding: 14, maybe 15. At first, I thought that 15 days of riding this winter certainly didn’t qualify me to count myself as “Highly Obsessed”. But then I thought: how much riding does the average person get in? I always think of this blog as attractive to folks in the 20-40 age bracket, many of whom are professionals with jobs, a marriage, etc. When things like that are factored in, 15 days of skiing or snowboarding in a winter is a heck of a lot.

How much did you get in, and is your season still going where you are?

Discussion

  1. Yesterday was day 46 for me but it has been a good season with only one small injury. Seperated shoulder two weeks ago. Shred on!

  2. Yesterday was day 27. I think I can get to 35 at most this season. Sucks cause my goal was 40 but there were weekends where I didn’t get to go at all.

  3. WOW.

I wonder if you folks live in mountain areas.

    Thanks for the comments!

  5. Wow… big numbers up there! I’m at 14 so far this season… my goal is 20. I guess that is decent considering I live in Los Angeles!

I think I can hit 20, considering Mammoth still has around 9-10′ base and they will likely be open to, and maybe beyond, Memorial Day.

  6. I think I’ve had about 14 so far, with 3 more next month.

Snow has been hitting the European alps quite heavily over the past couple of weeks so conditions should be alright for late season fingers crossed.

So, should be 17 by end of the season. Maybe less than I would have hoped for, but not too bad I s’pose.

  7. Only 11 for me this year. 4 days in Whistler, 3 days in Tremblant, then 4 more days in Whistler.

It seems like I’m going less and less each year. Probably because I don’t feel like wasting time riding in Ontario…

  8. 17 lift days, 2 days hiking small hills, my goal is 20, i made 15 last yr, a record for me

being in central NY, and having the nearest big mountain 3hrs away, its tough to do with the time/money/sleep/other stuff factor

and i wouldnt say im a busy person other than shredding whenever i can, like Adam mentioned, some of you must live really close to the mountain, are highly obsessed or dont work, which is it??

  9. I’m mid-30s (33 maybe) so far and I’m aiming to get at least 50 in before the season is over. Mostly in Whistler but a few days in Grouse and Cypress when the conditions were good. I guess that’s the good thing about living in Vancouver (although I keep finding myself jealous of people who live in Whistler)

  10. Dude, I’m jealous of people who live in Vancouver. Even Cypress or Grouse would be better than what we ride. :|

    Also, 33 maybe? :)

    Cheers
