Snowboarding

Skiing and Riding is Safer than Soccer or Rugby

Rugby I can buy, but soccer? Really? It’s true, according to French medical organisation Médecins de Montagne. The organization estimates that “for every 1,000 people skiing on a particular day, fewer than three will sustain an injury that requires medical treatment. Among snowboarders the figure rises to four,” according to this article. Artificial snow and lousy conditions are cited as two reasons why ski and snowboard injuries tend to increase. Pretty interesting stuff.

I’m dying to ride this weekend, but we’re in the middle of a full-fledged blizzard. Hopefully it will subside by tomorrow.

Discussion

  1. Thats a surprising statistic you have found there. I would have bet money that skiing and snowboarding were more injury prone than soccer. I would even have guessed that while rugby would probably have more injuries, those injuries require medical treatment less than the majority of ski and snowboard injuries.
