Devastating Fire Destorys Duke’s Cycle

We haven’t covered cycling in quite some time, and this is a very sad note to return to the topic on, but here goes: Duke’s Cycle, an extremely well-known and popular cycle shop here in Toronto, burned to the ground in a devastating fire this week. Duke’s was ‘home base’ for a cycling club that included several folks I know here, including Steve (who actually left for a return trip to Whistler yesterday). Of course, it was also well-known as a great place to get bikes, equipment and advice.

The store’s owners are already working on a return to business as usual, so that’s good. A note on their site says, “We are very optimistic for the future and we know that with your support, [and patience] we will get over this little disruption of business.” So that’s good news.

Here’s a photo from drpitch’s flickr stream. It hasn’t been a good week for the Toronto cycling faithful.

Discussion

  1. Just want to add that I’ll be writing more about the Duke’s fire when I return from Whistler (and I’ll write about that too).

I’m starting to recover from a bout of the plague, or else I would have wanted the opportunity to write this myself.
