Selecting The Proper Spinning Class

Seeing how this season was my first on the bike, it is now my first offseason. One way that I’ve chosen to stay in shape is to attend spinning classes. I’ve been attending and comparing various spinning courses over the past few weeks, and now that I’m the authoritative expert on the matter, I’ll share [...]

Trek joins Astana

In a somewhat expected move, Trek announced today that it has partnered with pro-cycling team Astana. With team Discovery out of the pro peloton, Trek needed to find a new team and Astana, likely due to Johan Bruyneel, was the logical fit.

Caution: Snowboarding Can Be Deadly

Interesting article this week in Edmonton’s independent weekly which discusses how snowboarding appears to be more deadly than skiing, and encourages skiers and riders to think while they’re on the slopes. Among the grim statistics: An average of 37 people have died skiing and snowboarding per year in the United States over the past 10 [...]

Snowboarding Under the Lights

I realize there is some serious overheard in keeping ski hills open at night (lights, staff, grooming, facilities and what have you), but I can’t help but wonder why more resorts don’t do it. After all, the ski season is not particularly long in most areas (especially here in Ontario); so why aren’t hills like [...]

First Turns With the New ACL (And Mt. St. Louis Moonstone Conditions)

Today was a big day for me: I hit the slopes once again, a little more than eight months after having my ACL surgically reconstructed. It’s been a long eight months, with countless hours spent stretching, weightlifting, running and bending, both at physiotherapy and at home. So, needless to say, I was a little apprehensive [...]

The Globe and Mail, Canada’s national newspaper, is running a special travel section this weekend on skiing and snowboarding. Among the highlights: A look at what’s up at Whistler Blackcomb (a given, due to the Olympics). A closer look at Telluride. How to find and ski/ride a World Cup run in Canada. Rescue at Chamonix, [...]

Here’s ten presents you can buy that are generally unique, affordable and will make the recipient think you’re the coolest ever. If they don’t already think you’re the coolest ever for being a snowboarder, that is.

Wednesday Roundup

Here are some news bits that I stumbled across while browsing the intraweb. Man gets arrested for picking up a fake wallet in the subway. What’s next, cash? GMail’s Google Talk now supports AOL Instant Messenger. USA’s debt will double while Bush is in office. Expected to reach $10 trillion. Perhaps it’s time to stop [...]

Some Major Alberta Resorts to Lose Jumps

I can’t believe I missed this controversy, which I just clued in to after passing through Afterbang tonight: Lake Louise, Nakiska Ski Area, Fernie and Kimberley Alpine Resort are all banning man-made jumps from their terrain parks. My guess would be the resorts don’t want to assume the liabilities inherent in allowing your guests to [...]
