For a guy that has lived in Mississippi for most of his life, I’m surprised that I was able to cycle in Canada well in to November. Add arm & leg warmers and a base layer, and the weather isn’t all that bad…yet. The Weather Network soon calls for snow in Toronto, which means it is time for my hibernation. To drive home my idea of putting the bike away, the Lapdogs Cycling Club is having an end of season party Saturday night to commemorate another fun year on the road (and dirt). Meanwhile, some of my friends, Hyperboreans that they are, will continue to ride until the snow piles high enough to block the road in front of them. Perhaps as I get more acclimated to both the cold weather and cycling, I shall be so bold; this year, however, I am not.
So now that the off-season has arrived, I’ll take some time to relax (actually, I’ve been doing that a lot the last couple of weeks) and then build a training plan. The OCA releases their 2008 racing schedule on December 1st, and then I’ll plan my training for the upcoming season – my second season on the bike and the first season that I’ll be racing. Speaking of training, I scouted a neighborhood spinning class tonight and came away very impressed. I’m looking forward to giving that a shot.
Oh, and of course I’m getting prepped for snowboarding. Unlike last year, I have all of the gear that I need going in to the season. The only item that I’ll need to replace is my coat that was torn in Whistler a year ago (and is now marked by the oh-so-classy duck tape running down the length of its sleeve). As Adam was eager to mention earlier, Whistler is already getting pummeled with snow. This bodes well for our January trip!
