Choose Canada

It looks like Gavin over at Afterbang is planning a snowboarding trip to Canada, and has a whole section about his thoughts. Being a dude from Canada with a snowboarding obsession, it makes for interesting reading. Obviously he’s looking at the usual suspects out west - Kicking Horse, Banff and the like.
One thing that caught [...]

Well, Summer Snow *Is* Possible

Check out the snow dump Big White got this week:

Looks like they got almost 14 inches of snow. Holy crap.

ACL Tear Update

Three months down. Knee feels great. Hamstring feels great. A little weaker in the quad, I think, but otherwise I’m doing awesome.
Physio is down to once every two weeks, supplemented by workouts on my own at the gym. I’m doing lots of biking and golfing, but am not allowed to do much on a treadmill [...]

Think You Catch Air When Snowboarding? Prove It

Found something very cool via SlashGear today: the Hangtimer.
Check it:
“Whether you huck off a cliff, bomb down a bike trail, or just toss it (and yourself) up in the air, the HangTimer’s built in tri-xis accelerometer measures your actual hang time.”

Yessss! Now you can back up your next big air experience with proof.

Learn to Snowboard

Robert’s Green DIY blog has an article helping readers learn to snowboard. One of the more concise, well-written articles I’ve seen on the topic recently.

frequency Issue is 6.1 is Out

frequency is a glossy, spiffy-looking snowboarding magazine of cofee-table quality. I just got my first copy in the mail this week, and I was extremely impressed. The articles are very well-written (there’s an excellent piece on finding secret spots in the Kootenays) but it’s the photos that take the cake.

Among the excellent photos are:

The cover [...]

What I Learned In New York City

I’ve been in New York City (specifically, Manhattan) all week, where I learned a few (albeit non-snowboarding) things:

The best way to hail a cab is to run in the middle of the street and flail your arms wildly. This gives you a 50 percent chance of getting one to pull over.
Mahattan is incredibly clean and [...]

10 Weeks Later: ACL Recovery Update

This has become a popular page for people seeking ACL recovery information and experiences with arthroscopic ACL replacement surgery. If you’re interested in learning more about how I have been dealing with my ACL recovery, please check out these posts. Thanks for coming by!

It’s 10 weeks out, and my knee feels [...]

My Top Ten ‘Next’ North American Ski Areas

If you read this site regularly, you know there’s a heavy dose of Whistler talk. Every time I go on vacation, it seems I end up there. Believe it or not, however, there are other ski areas I want to visit that aren’t Whistler. I just seem to keep going back because a) it’s easy [...]

Whistler Wants (Highly) Obsessed Folks

Couldn’t resist this one: Whistler is running ads for an “obsessed contest” on their website. Granted, they’re not looking for snowboarders: they want riders obsessed with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. Some nice accessories are up for grabs.
