Getting to Tremblant (And Their Strange Front Page)

The current front page of Mont Tremblant’s website is very interesting:

Hmmmmmm.

I’ve actually been thinking of Tremblant a lot lately, trying to figure out if there is an easy way to get there without driving. Ever since my trip early last season I’ve wanted to return; it’s great to know there’s a quality mountain within reasonable driving distance from Toronto.

Did I mention “reasonable driving distance” equates to six to eight hours?

So what’s the best way? Let’s find out. This is what I want to try next year:

1. Fly Porter Airlines to Montreal. The best thing about Porter is the fact they’re located at the Toronto Island Airport, in downtown Toronto, so no ridiculous trip to Mississauga. It’s also damn cheap. Let’s assume, because their ticket prices vary significantly, that each way will cost $100. So $200 total.

2. Get to Tremblant from Montreal. This seems tricky. It seems, generally, one must rent a car and drive. Tack on 1.5 hours of driving and another $200 or so for a car rental and gas. Not so bad if you split this cost with some buddies.

Another option that’s intriguing to me is Ultimate Ski Vacations. Their Tremblant package allows you to fly from Toronto to Tremblant in just 1.5 hours. They advertise check-in (at airport) to slopeside in about two to two and a half hours. Damn! A $799 package includes flights, 3-4 nights of lodging (depending on whether your trip is weekend or mid-week), and two lift tickets. Taxes all in. I’ve always thought this is a bit pricey up front, but now that I think about it… I might have a few chats with my friends in the coming months.

Of course, the third option is rent a car and drive six to eight hours. I’m not sure I want to drive there again.

  1. On behalf of the thousands of Torontonians who enjoy the Toronto Island parks, boating in the harbour, and concerts at Harbourfront, please DO NOT FLY PORTER.
The noise and pollution from these planes is a very unpleasant contrast to what the waterfront could be.
When someone decides that open pit mining is a good idea for Mont Tremblant, we’ll support you too.

  2. on behalf of the thousands of Torontonians who LOVE smog and the health issues involved, and who don’t give a crap about the environment, PLEASE take your car, drive out to Pearson in traffic, then take an expensive and environmentally detrimental jet to to Montreal. Please ignore the fact that by flying Porter you are a)using public transit and thereby decreasing congestion on the Gardiner and contributing to the decrease of carbon emissions and b) flying a plane that is quiet (The Queen’s Quay streetcar makes more noise than the planes taking off - I know because I LIVE RIGHT THERE) and that uses/burns 80% less jet fuel than a jet that flies out of Pearson.

  3. Porter announced on Friday that it will be providing direct non-stop service to Mont Tremblant from downtown Toronto this winter. This will without a doubt be the most convenient way to get to Tremblant, being able to leave downtown Toronto and be on the slopes in about 2 hours time. Thats quicker then getting to Blue Mountain.
