Like most years, I’m already planning at least two trips to ‘real’ mountains for next season. However, I’m sort of torn on where to go. I’m certain Tremblant will be one, now that I’ve discovered there is excellent terrain within driving distance of Toronto; the big question is, Whistler again? Or Alberta? Did I hear someone say Colorado?
To be honest, I think the riding crew is leaning toward staying in Canada; it’s cheaper to get around, and there’s something familiar and comforting about staying in the country (especially if you get injured). But where to go? We keep heading to Whistler, which is familiar to us (and huge!). We could go to another BC-based hill, like Panorama or Kicking Horse, but the proximity to Vancouver and the fact there are two mountains make us keep going back to ‘ol Whistler Blackcomb. I’d like to try the Lake Louise/Banff/Sunshine village area, but I’m sort of turned off by the fact that you need to drive to each mountain (spoiled by the walking distance between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, I suppose).
Anyhow, these are nice problems to have!
Hey Adam!
I’m still thinking about this season… or at least extending it as long as possible! So, I’m looking for your opinion on boarding Whistler in the summer (July)… have you ever done it, would you say it’s worth it…? Apparently the glacier is open for 3 hours each day, but I don’t know what the conditions would be like or if it would be any good?
Thanks for any and all help!!
Tremblant is within driving distance of toronto?
I suggest you try Jay Peak, VT. It’s nowhere near as busy as Tremblant, great mountain too, and you can pay on par. The apres ski sucks though so you may want to try stratton which is a little further south.

Hey!
Would I fly all the way out there for it? Probably not. The trip up is waaay long (if I recall correctly, signs warn you it’s an hour to get up and down) and the vertical isn’t too much. It would be cool for the sake of saying I went riding in the summer… and I would go mountain biking there because it looks awesome… but I dunno. If I was going to pay for a summer freeriding trip, I’d hit Chile or Argentina (though that’s more expensive of course).
Tremblant is kind of like Jay Peak… a 7-8 hour drive from Toronto. I would try and fly if I could.
You’re right, ZERO apres at Jay. But you can’t beat their glades!
