It’s been nine days since my ACL reconstruction surgery. So far, it’s been quite an interesting experience… and slightly painful. Though I’m entirely off any painkillers at this point, and I’m pretty much on the road to recovery.
I start physiotherapy in two to three weeks. Feeling good, I actually ditched the crutches a few days after surgery, but found I experienced some pretty significant pain when I sat down and put my leg up. So I went back to crutches and worried I’d screwed something up. Fortunately, when I went back to the surgeon a couple of days ago, he said I should basically walk on it as much as I want. So it seems to me that a good deal of my recovery is in my own hands. Do I want to get walking? Walk on it. Do I want to get golfing? Work on bending your knee. Do leg lifts. I’d hit the pool too, but there are five or six small stitched-up areas on my knee.
So I’m pretty limber, and getting better every day. Still walking with a pretty significant limp, but at least I’m walking. Mornings are painful, because my leg has been inactive for six/seven hours, but as the day goes on and the leg warms up I start to feel better and better.
