Ontario Hills Will be Closing Up Shop

If you had asked me how long Ontario’s ski season could last about two weeks ago, I would have said several weeks. Unfortunately, it looks like some really warm temperatures are getting in the way. Despite unprecedented snow bases of 100+ centimetres this winter, the recent spell of warm weather is forcing some hills to shut ‘er down. (Unless, of course, these hills already predetermined their shutdown dates, which I suppose is a possibility as well.) Today is Moonstone’s last day, and Talisman is now closed as well (and they were promoting an ‘extended season’, if they weather held up, only last week). Blue Mountain is still open, and Horsehoe is closing for a few days next week to host racing events — and says it will re-open April 4-8.

What a season here in Ontario. It started so poorly, caught up in a hurry, and ended with a whimper.

My advice? Head to Whistler, where the epic spring continues. Le sigh…
