Snowboarding

Spring Is Here. So Long, Snowboarding

Well, spring has officially arrived and my ACL reconstruction surgery is imminent. My snowboarding season is therefore officially done. It’s funny, when I look back at all the riding this year, it turns out I only spent 13 days on the slopes. Thirteen days.  For someone supposedly “Highly Obsessed” with snowboarding, that’s not much. Somewhere, Wil from 120 Days of Powder is laughing.

Of course, it’s not entirely my fault I only spent 13 days riding. You may recall that the first half of the winter in Ontario, for example, was more or less wiped out by crappy conditions. (And who can forget my amazing press interview on the weather?)

Interestingly, I really do think I actually did more riding during the 2006-2007 season than last year. I say this because of six straight days of snowboarding during my Whistler vacation, not to mention my early season trip to Mont Tremblant. I honestly think the combined nine days of riding between these two trips really made me feel like I got a lot of riding done — especially in Whistler. I’ve never snowboarded four days in a row before, never mind six. Ever.

Toss in the fact I did the whole season with a torn ACL and I’m probably pretty lucky I got any riding done at all.

So what’s next for the site, then? Will the posting stop? Nope. I went strong last spring and summer and plan to do the same this year. And I intentionally timed my ACL reconstruction surgery so that my recovery conincides with the start of the 2007-2008 snowboarding season - so I must still be Highly Obsessed.  :)

  2. dont feel bad man, im definitely obsessed but with a 9 to 5 it tough getting out, i got out 15 times (maybe another to come) ….. closest leg burner is an hour away, so unless you live in a mountain town and have no day job, i dont see how its possible to compare yourself with a guy who does 120 days of pow

  4. Was just up at Blue today, Conditions were pretty good in the morning, got pretty sloppy in the afternoon.
Proof that with enough speed a snowboard can skip across a 30ft wide puddle.
Unless we get some cold nights I think the season is done at Blue
