In late July, I made brief mention of an area on the north end of Blue Mountain that has been designated for ‘future expansion’ forever. It turns out Blue Mountain refers to that area as ‘The Orchard’, and they’re opening it today, for one day only. I suppose the area must be serviceable by a lift, then. I would estimate The Orchard would add another three or four runs. If anyone hits it up today, please let me know how it is.
Incidentially, I’m thinking about heading up there tomorrow. I haven’t gone riding since Whistler a couple of weeks ago, and I’m getting antsy. Furthermore, most areas north of Toronto have been getting tons and tons and tons of snow all week. I need to check this out.
North? the orchard is in the south end dude, and it kinda sorta is serviced by a lift, it’s a short hike if you’re used to real backcountry, but there’s no way to actually go down the runs without taking your board off. It’s a little trail off waterfall run that you take, it’s actually a snowshoe trail and you can always go there, they just like to say that it’s “open”. They just don’t want you going there any other day. there is no lift servicing that, they’ve been holding that expansion forever, they keep putting it off, they said last year then this year and now it’s a month and a half until shred season and i don’t see any starting of the promised new base or even lift for that matter. not even any digging.
