Behold, the Power of Science! Self-Waxing Skis

Well, it looks like science is finally helping humanity. Some scienticians in the UK have built some pretty kick-ass self-waxing skis that always keep the sticks slick, making them a little faster (really fast, apparently, on artificial snow).

Check it:

On an indoor slope with artificial snow, skiers were 8% better. And an
early test conducted in the Austrian Alps suggests the new skis are 2%
faster than conventional ones on real snow. Styring suggests that
different waxes, better suited to alpine conditions, might improve this
further and plans to carry out more trials during 2007.

Now we need something similar for snowboards! I’ve heard of sintered bases, but that doesn’t appear to be the same thing as this new technology, which uses teeny little holes to keep feeding wax to the base.
