A Closer Look at Night Riding

I posted a brief entry earlier this month on late-night riding at Brandy Wine. I just came across a closer look at night skiing by The New York Times, and thought it was doubly appropriate given it also lists a few areas with late-night skiing New Year’s Eve (hint: you’re in luck if you live near Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire, Trollhaugen in Wisconsin, Mount Hood in Oregon or Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts.

  1. Worst fall I ever took was at Sunrise, AZ, night skiing. On a green no less. Conditions were icy and cold and I could not see the snow real well and caught an edge. I fell hard enough to shatter my goggles and give me a concussion.
My son Jake and brother Jackson spent most of last week night skiing and it is great to have it available at Brian Head. What else do you do? Sit around the hotel or condo?

  2. Yeah, I’ve only gone night riding once and found it really dangerous. Goggles keep the cold wind off your face — but it also prevents you from seeing terrain properly. Yikes!
