Snowboarding

About Highlyobsessed.com

Who are you and what is this site about?

My name is Adam, and I’m a resident of Toronto, Ontario Canada. I started snowboarding in late winter 2003, and loved it. By 2004, I had my own gear. And in November 2005, I started this site.

I am by no means a phenomenal snowboarder, I suppose. When it comes to freeriding, I am very, very good. My park skills are limited at best. I am planning to improve them, but have to put it off for a while thanks to a lousy injury that limits me to freeriding.

I didn’t have much of a focus or intention when I started this site; I just wanted to blog about snowboarding, because my friends were getting tired of listening to me.

How touching. Is that still the case? You just want to rant?

I tend to think of highlyobessed.com as more of a community now, one that is gaining blog content, permanent articles, and facilitating lots of conversation. There is certainly more of a focus on intelligent discussion than some other sites, ones where kids post photos of themselves pulling off tricks in the terrain park while others throw compliments like “OMG ur riding is gud cyass” at their feet. Highlyobesessed.com attracts a slightly older but as equally enthusiastic audience.

When you say ’slightly older but as equally enthusiastic’, what do you mean? Like, Jake Burton old?

Hey, man. Jake Burton is 51 and he’s better at snowboarding than you, I’m sure. He also rides more.

Sorry.

No problem. I don’t have concrete demographic data, but I would say most visitors that keep coming back and get engaged in conversations range from the older youths to folks with office jobs who happen to love riding on weekends.

Are you trying to sell me something?

Not really. And besides, you’re the one that asked about the audience. But if you’re interested in advertising, contact me. Monthly run-of-site rates are quite reasonable, and provide access to, ahem, an intelligent audience.

Now you’re definitely trying to sell me something.

I’m done talking about advertising.

Great. Well, you definitely sound like a poser, but I’m curious to know what your current setup is.

- Ride Catalayst 2005 155″
- Salomon SPI strap-in bindings, 2005
- A totally beat-up pair of Kempber boots that need replacing… badly.
- Giro Bad Lieutenant snowboard helmet

Thanks. Nice talking to you.

Errr my pleasure. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Nice to meet you. Check out the DC boots! I was going to buy a pair this year but I dropped so much money on everything else that I decided to stick with my Salomon F24s a little longer.
http://www.sierrasnowboards.com has a decent community and the store is great!
