Ross Rebagliati Update: Still Going for Gold

Earlier this year, I mentioned Ross Rebagliati was trying to make a comeback in time for the 2010 Olympics. Unfortunately, I could find little information on how Ross was doing after the comeback was announced; as a result, I wasn’t able to post any followups. Recently, however, Ross updated his blog with a couple of new interviews that shed some light on how he’s doing. Among the highlights:

- He’s trying to score some sponsorship money. Personally, I don’t understand why a company wouldn’t want to pick him up as a sponsor; he’s easily one of the most well-known snowboarding personalities in North America. This is easy, free exposure.

- Ross sold his house to pay for his training, got hooked on the idea, and bought/sold some more.

- He’s doing some conditioning training with an ex-Russian army dude named Sasha, who Ross called “pretty hardcore.”  I’ve actually met the guy Ross is talking about (he’s pretty well known in the Whistler-Pemberton area) and I can tell you he’s one strong bull (and very nice).

- Ross is flying down Blackcomb mountain daily through the gates at the Jersey Cream race centre. While I didn’t list Jersey Cream in my top 5, the Jersey Cream area is required riding when you visit.

-All the snow falling in Whistler is not necessarily good news for Ross, as racers prefer icier conditions (go figure).

Anyway, nice to see Ross is still in the hunt. Hopefully he’ll remain visible as he continues his quest.
