Are The Heads Tired of Shaun White?

I don’t know if I’m reading too much into this, but I couldn’t help but notice Transworld’s January 2007 article titled “The Da White Code: The 2006 Honda Session – Another Chapter in the Shaun White Book of Dominance” was incredibly devoid of Shaun White. Although the article opens with a descriptor of how Shaun owned the event, it quickly moves on to other topics and never returns to White.

Now, I like Shaun White. I’m not a huge fan or anything, but I think he’s generally a nice kid from what I can tell, and he seems to be good with the media. That said, I wasn’t upset or anything because the Transworld article was lacking Shaun White content; I just thought it was odd that an article named after White would have content about White – especially when it’s covering an event he tore up!

So this brings me to my question: are the heads of Shaun White?

Mainstream media certainly isn’t. His fans certainly aren’t. Burton isn’t. And I’m sure the events he enters love having him there. But I can’t shake the feeling that the industry insiders – the writers, some riders, the real die-hard snowboarding fans – are tired of this dude. Kind of like how golfers get tired of losing to Tiger Woods, I suppose. When I pull up a Shaun White video on YouTube, I read tons of comments arguing for an against his merits.  Same goes for any mention of him on the Transworld site. And I’m not sure why. This guy can dominate skate and snowboard events, is media-savvy, and has a good sense of humor. Are people just tiring of him winning?

Or maybe I’m just nuts.
