Snowboarding in Ontario: Back to Nothing

Since I’ve been gone, things have got even warmer in Ontario. Really, really warm. In fact, as this article details, most of the hills in southern Ontario have had to close due to a lack of snow. Damn. Good things I got those runs in at Moonstone while I could.

Update: Thought I would provide a little more detail. First, the outlook is not good. Check out this 14-day forecast from The Weather Network for the Barrie, Ontario area:

That ain’t good.

Blue Mountain’s slopes are closed, Moonstone is operating on a much more limited basis than when I went a couple of weeks ago. Horseshoe is still open on a limited basis. I’m not sure how long hills can stay open with plus-zero temperatures, which basically prevents snowmaking. Ski resort operators in Ontario, which already have to contend with a short winter, are getting screwed.
