Coming Soon to a Resort Near You: Snowboarders and Bandanas

Okay, so how come no-one clued me in to this bandana thing?

As I stood in a lift line yesterday, I saw this dude fly by on a snowboard wearing a bandana. “Haha,” said. “What a jackass. Dude’s wearing a bandana. Yeah. Like *that* is going to keep him warm.”

About three minutes later, I saw someone else go by with a bandana. And another one after that.

WTF?

I am 100% sure I did not see anyone wearing a bandana last year. But it only took five minutes at Moonstone’s opening day to figure out 2007 was going to be Year of the Bandana. I did a bit of poking around, and it seems like Shaun White has been doing this for a couple of years; everyone else (at least in Ontario, anyway) seems to be catching on. Is this what I have to look forward to in Tremblant and Whistler? 15 year old Burton-clad bank robbers?

 2. Im not too sure about wearing one on my head for warmth, but I did catch on to White’s use of the bandana as a neck gator. So i copped a winter camo handkerchief and its been on since.

 4. I see a lot of them among groups. Several folks in a group will wear the same color bandana so that they can identify their group–usually a family or skiclub or church group does it. I have seen armbands or bandanas ties around the arm, etc., too, but lost of times they wear them around the neck so that people can spot their group on busy days.
