Snowboarding in the Midwest

I may be a little late to the game, but I just came across Snowplaces.com – a pretty cool destination for information on skiing and snowboarding in the midwest United States. It has a pretty extensive directory of ski areas (80 in 10 midwestern states!), and it looks nice too.

Conditions are Gradually Improving

Well, conditions are improving here in Ontario; Blue Mountain is back up and running, albeit with only three runs (which is one more than yesterday). Mt. St. Louis Moonstone has about half the place open. Is it enough for me to head back up there to ride? Definitely not, especially with Whistler on the horizon. [...]

A Closer Look at Night Riding

I posted a brief entry earlier this month on late-night riding at Brandy Wine. I just came across a closer look at night skiing by The New York Times, and thought it was doubly appropriate given it also lists a few areas with late-night skiing New Year’s Eve (hint: you’re in luck if you live [...]

Helmets are Becoming Accessories

Interestingly, 20 percent of skier visits in Ontario take place between Christmas and January 8. I bet that applies to most resorts worldwide.

The Impact of Skiers and Snowboarders on Snow

There’s an Associated Press article out on Alta, a ski area in Utah that still doesn’t allow snowboarders on its slopes. There were a couple of lines in the article that caught my attention: “At the risk of offending my snowboarding friends, I have to say this is another reason why I like skiing here [...]

Office Booyz: When Snowboarding Cubicle Robots Get Together

The new issue of Snowboard Canada Magazine has a write-up about Office Booyz, a pretty funny event held at Grouse Mountain in April 2006. (For those of you who don’t know, Grouse Mountain is a 25-run ski area in north Vancouver with a vertical drop of some 1,200 feet. Vancouverites love to gloat about how [...]
