The Denver Post ran a nice interview recently with Jeremy Jones, one of the most famous big mountain snowboarders in the world. The article is an interesting contrast in riders: Jones, a hardcore big mountain rider, thrives on catapulting down extremely steep slopes at high speeds. The author, while an avid snowboarder, is completely happy with groomed runs.
The article got me thinking about my own snowboarding preferences; I like glades, groomed runs and a bit of exploration, but I’m not got enough at this point to go backcountry riding, I think. Furthermore, it looks like my knee will force me to take it easy this year. So I won’t be doing anything fancy — even terrain park jumps are ouf the question. I’m starting to think that sticking to groomed trails and marked runs, while safe, is also only one component of the ’snowboarding experience’.
