It may be a balmy 20 degrees here in Toronto, but out in Colorado the race is on to see which ski resort can open first. The competitiors appear to be Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Silverton Mountain, all of whom seem to be optimistic about opening within the next week or two. With high elevations and lots of natural snow, it doesn’t take much for many Colorado resorts to get up and running; unfortunately, the rest of us have to wait for the real winter to begin.
Update: It would appear the winner is Arapahoe, which opened Friday, followed closely by Loveland, which opened today. Stellar has more on the openings.
Well I’m heading up to A-basin tomorrow from Santa Fe (7 hours). I’ll probably ride Friday, and if its worth it I’ll come back Sunday for another go. The depressing thing is they just got about 8″, but I’m sure it’s nowhere near enough to open any more runs. The lift line on the webcam looks pretty horrific too. Ah well, I’m sure I’ll love every minute of it.
