The Lofty Canadian Dollar and Riding in the US

So as most (Canadian) readers know, the loonie is kicking butt and taking names. As this article points out, that’s good news for American ski resorts (big ups to Jay Peak!), but bad news for Canadian ones.

Although I am already in the process of planning our next trip to Whistler, I can’t shake the feeling that maybe I should try Colorado or Utah — especially with the Canadian dollar now almost at par. I think I’m going to have to try one of them soon.

  1. Roll on down to Utah and we will take care of you. Brian Head does not compare favorably to Whistler for vertical and size, but from my place, I can roll up to Snowbird, Park City, etc., and give you the tour. Plus SLC is cheap to stay in. $50 a night for a nice room.

  2. I’d really love to check out Utah. And price certainly sounds right!
But what’s this I hear about “bar club memberships” and early bar closing hours? I was in Washington a couple of weeks ago and met some guy from down there that were explaining the state’s, um, complex drinking regulations. Heh heh.

  3. No kidding. 3.2% beer, bar club memberships, and insanity. But the club memberships cost like $1 per night and are just designed to make life difficult on the folks that drink. Minor inconvenience.
But any beer other than 3.2% is mad expensive. However, Nevada is only 100 miles from the condo, so we stock up on anything we need on the way up.

  4. Ahhhh good old Ontario. You may only be able to ski hills 700 feet tall, but you can drink 5.0%+ beer all day. :)
