Snowboarding

Goodbye, Winter..

It seems like I was racing to Moonstone only yesterday to take
advantage of the three or four runs they had opened in November. Sadly,
that was months ago; Moonstone, Blue Mountain and most other resorts in
Ontario are now closed for the
season. Despite a mild March, it seems like business was brisk for most
of them throughout the winter, and from a rider perspective, I can’t complain; I got to ride from
November right through March. That’s outstanding.

So what now? In Ontario, your options are limited. There is no glacier
riding like in Whistler, nor is there summer skiing like in Chile.
I personally have turned to mountain biking, and lots of people seem to
be getting into dragon boating these days around Toronto; in fact,
we’re hosting the 2006 club crew world championships
at a spiffy new course being built right now. I have several cousins
from BC coming down to compete (the same ones I visit in Whistler!).

I’m also taking up golf. I got my dad some clubs a few weeks ago, have
some facilities in my condo, and there are courses-a-plenty around here. This should be interesting.

One thing I didn’t realize until recently is that Blue Mountain has downhill MTB. I’m going to have to give that a shot this year too; usually I hit Hardwood Hills for single-track riding..

Anyway, regardless of summer’s approach… snowboarding blogging will continue!
