iPods and Olympic Snowboarding

Anyone who snowboards knows that iPods are one of the most popular accessories on the hills. Not surprisingly, this trend carried over to the U.S. Olympic snowboarding team, who managed to kick serious ass while listening to tunes.

Personally, I’m slightly afraid of nailing someone (or getting hit
myself) with headphones on, so I tend not to do it. But on a short run
like a snowboard cross or in the halfpipe, I could see how that would
be pretty cool.

This article points out that this trend is basically “A sponsorship waiting to happen”, and lists some of the songs used by winners.

  1. I always board with a walkman. I find that the trick is to use on-the-ear headphones, rather than earbuds (that go in the ear). This way you can hear enough of what’s going on around to be aware of other people on the hill.
I tuck the walkman in my breast clip a remote control to the outside.
Try it – you won’t go back to boarding in silence!

  2. Hmmmmm.. *and* it would keep your ears warm. But what if you’re wearing a helmet! ;)

  3. These over-the-ear phones should fit under a helment (I don’t wear one) – depending on the model:

Hope your knee/ankle gets better soon. This weekend’s obviously a write-off at Blue – but we might still get in a couple of days yet …
