Ontario Snowboarding

Finally - Serious Snow in Southern Ontario

Yesterday we went to Blue Mountain. It was quite an adventure for
several reasons, but the big one was the snowstorm. It took us more
than two and a half hours to get from Toronto to Collingwood thanks to
a huge storm that forced us to drive well below the speed limit on
highway 400 and beyond.

The upside? Blue was getting killed with
snow. The snow was a little heavy, but if you could get beyond that you
might say the conditions were Whistler-esque at certain points: so much
snow that you couldn’t see more than five feet and front of you, and
you certainly couldn’t tell where the next bump in the hill was.

It was great to go snowboarding and not have to hear that constant icy
scraping sound that is oh-so-familiar in Ontario. It was soft an quiet
all day, thanks to about 15 centimetres of new snow.

The only downside to the day was my bindings. I’ve been having trouble
with the right binding on my old Flow step-ins — they’re an old rental
pair I bought used in Whistler last year — and I actually popped out
of my back binding a couple of times when making high-impact turns.
This is not good. But at the same time, I really don’t want to drop
additional money right before going to Vermont.. although I may have to.

    Glad to hear it ^_^
How many 4×4’s did you see off the side of Hwy 400 on the drive up? ^_-

  2. LOTS of cars ditched on the 400, it was crazy. Mostly sedans though. :) Nice drive home though! Definitely worth the trip.
