Two Days of Riding

Went to Moonstone yesterday, and conditions were great (well, for Ontario, anyway). Some fresh snow, no line-ups and the whole mountain open meant there was lots of different terrain to try. I spent a bit of time in the park, trying to master the indy; after several successful jumps that didn’t involve tricks, and several indy-related crashes, I figured I still needed to practice working on my jumps.

On Friday, we tried Horseshoe for the first time, and I don’t think I’ll be returning any time soon. The runs are certainly more scenic than Moonstone, but I found them to be very, very short. What’s more, the resort seemed more full of beginners, which led to a great deal of my snowboard being knocked around in line, people dropping stuff on lifts, and people wiping out/hanging out where lifts disembark. Add lineups to the mix and it was sort of annoying. I’m glad I checked it out, but I think skiing/snowboarding is more of a value-added to the other things the resort offers.

Both trips gave me plenty of opportunity to try my new snowboard, which is completely awesome. I never realized how much work is involved in riding with a cheaper board until I got a better one. Suddenly, riding quickly isn’t as much work, nor does it involve as much shock on my knees. It’s totally kick-ass!
