I’ve been very tied up with holiday preparations and related work, but here’s a few snowboard-related snippets in the meantime:
- When I went to Whistler a couple of weeks ago, they were sitting on the same snow they had since American Thanksgiving, more or less. But lately they’ve been getting dumped on, and have been able to open the entire mountain. (When I went, downloading was mandatory. Some people were skiing out, but they had only made a path to the bottom that was really icy and about 10 feet wide, so I felt it wasn’t worth it).
- Despite the busy holiday season and great conditions, Tremblant is not operating at full capacity because of a labour dispute. If you’re planning to head out there, you may want to call ahead to see what’s open/what’s not.
- Jay Peak, my next major destination in Feburary, has already received more than 160 inches of snow.
- I recently came across an article about welovesnow.com, a company that organizes ski and snowboard trips in Japan. Colorado and Japan, those are my next desired destinations!
(I would love to hear from anyone about the quality of riding and skiing in Japan.)
Happy holidays!
