The main reason I purchased a helmet
this season is to practice jumps and rails. Now that I can snowboard
really well, I wanted to take it to the next level. I think
jumping/park riding in general is that next step.
I decided when I purchased the helmet that I wouldn’t try too much in
Whistler. This is because I didn’t want to waste my trip learning the
ins and outs of the park, when I could be riding kick-ass 20 minute
runs. I did, however, try a few small jumps that were being carved out
of some runs naturally, and had some limited success. Things that I
learned quickly about jumping:
- Pick your landing spot before you land.
- Don’t bring your board up behind your back - keep your board flat.
I plan to work on this more in the coming weeks.
I also had a hilarious run-in with a teeny tiny beginner box on
Blackcomb, one that was so wide it was impossible to fall. Well, I
fell… while three our four real park riders watched. It was pretty
embarassing.
