Four Resorts Say: No Riders Allowed

When I went to Kissing Bridge last year, I was shocked to encounter a “skiiing only” run. How, and why, did they want to discriminate against snowboarders?
Well, it turns out that some resorts still do. According to this article, there’s still at least four large resorts in the United States that disallow snowboarding - period.
On [...]

A New Addition to the Family

One of the gifts I recieved this year during the holiday season was a Sport Chek gift certificate. The purpose of the certificate was to help me buy a new snowboard. Needless to say, I was itching to lose the Mole snowboard I had learned to ride with for something more advanced; so, the day [...]

It’s Almost Olympic Snowboarding Time

It’s almost time for the Olympics!
Canada hasn’t won an Olympic snowboarding medal since Ross Rebagliati oh-so-famously won gold in Nagano. This article provides a nice overview detailing why this may be Canada’s year to win another.
And even if it isn’t.. we’ll certainly win one in hockey!

Gearing Up For The Holidays

I’ve been very tied up with holiday preparations and related work, but here’s a few snowboard-related snippets in the meantime:
- When I went to Whistler a couple of weeks ago, they were sitting on the same snow they had since American Thanksgiving, more or less. But lately they’ve been getting dumped on, and have been [...]

On Google and Snowboarding

The 2005 year end Google Zeitgeist
is out. The Zeitgeist aggregates the billions of searches performed on
Google each year, and lists trends and statistics within that data.
It’s always a fun read, as it provides a barometer for trends that took
off, news that was of interest to a wide range of audiences, and more.
So what does this [...]

Mastering The Indy Grab

This weekend I headed to Moonstone, where the conditions were probably better than I had ever seen. Ontario is famous for its short, fast, icy runs; but this weekend there was plenty of snow.
It was odd to move from Whistler runs to Ontario runs, where you were top to bottom on a hill in three [...]

More Snow In Southern Ontario

We got hit pretty hard with a snowstorm on Thursday - about 15 to 20 cm
of snow, depending on where you were. To the east of us, however, the
storm really had an impact: Montreal got more than 40 cm!
I think I’m going to hit Moonstone tomorrow; conditions should be pretty good.

On Jumps and Terrain Parks

The main reason I purchased a helmet
this season is to practice jumps and rails. Now that I can snowboard
really well, I wanted to take it to the next level. I think
jumping/park riding in general is that next step.
I decided when I purchased the helmet that I wouldn’t try too much in
Whistler. This is because I [...]

The Early Season Whistler Adventure

As you’ve likely read I headed to Whistler last week for a bit of snowboarding and a lot of drinking. Or maybe it was the other way around. Regardless, it was great to finally get on the hills for some serious riding! Below are the higlights of the trip. Well, of the riding anyway…

Snowboard Gear: Mole Snowboards and More

(Edit: I’ve updated/edited this posting, originally posted last month, to incorporate more information on my beginner board that seems to attract alot of searches.)
