The more I look around, the more I feel like I live next to the only
ski resorts in North America not yet open. Tremblant is open.
Saint-Saveur is open. And Whistler is planning to open more terrain
earlier than ever before this weekend.
And me?
I’m in Southern Ontario, waiting for anything to open.
Southern Ontario is a funny place to ride. Blue Mountain
is probably our biggest “mountain”, with a vertical of somewhere
between 700 and 800 feet. All the resorts open later in the season,
close earlier and feature runs that are a minute or less. The one
upside is all the lifts are top-notch, as short runs can mean long lineups if the lifts aren’t good.
Oh well. Better than nothing I suppose. I’ve got a few dozen of these
small-ish hills nearby; the big ones, unfortunately, are at least five
hours away.
