Blackcomb Gets Dumped (Good News for Me)

I got an alert last night that Blackcomb is going to be opened this weekend… three weeks ahead of schedule.

Why? I’ll let the Environment Canada forecast do the talking:

Whistler – Blackcomb.

Today..Snow heavy at times diminishing early this afternoon. Alpine
temperature steady near minus 4. Snowfall accumulation 5 to 10 cm.

Freezing level surface. Mountain top winds south 10 km/h.

Tonight.. Flurries. Alpine temperature steady near minus 4. Snowfall
accumulation trace. Freezing level surface. Mountain top winds
light and variable.

Wednesday..Periods of snow. Alpine high minus 2. Snowfall
accumulation 5 to 10 cm. Freezing level surface. Mountain top winds
light and variable becoming southwest 10 km/h.

Thursday.. Snow. Snowfall accumulation 20 to 30 cm. Freezing level
1700 metres.

Friday.. Snow. Snowfall accumulation 5 to 10 cm. Freezing level 1000
metres.

Saturday.. Periods of snow. Snowfall accumulation 5 to 10 cm.

Freezing level 1000 metres.

So the alpine is getting hammered with snow. This is good news. This is
doubly good news when you consider that last year was reportedly their
lousiest year for snow in.. well, a long time. I actually went out to
Whistler twice last year, and to me it was heavenly both times.

This is really really good news for myself, as I’m heading to Whistler
with a few friends in early December. I know it’s early in the year,
but I’m hoping there’s enough snow to ski out by then. Just to do at
the end of the day.
